Lara Ruppell

Teaching Experience:

Lara is enjoying her seventh year with The Hockey Program and seventh year teaching elementary at Donnan School. She graduated with 2 degrees in 2004; Physical Education/ Education, both with Distinction and also taught ESL in Japan for a year in 2004.

Playing experience:

5 years with U of A Pandas, 4 National Championships, Assistant Captain in 2003-2004, Canada-West All-Star, 4 time Academic All-Canadian, Team Alberta (1997-1999) Assistant Captain - Bronze Medal in 1999 Canada Winter Games, EGHA Midget AAA Rebels Assistant Captain (1996-1998).

Coaching Experience:

For the 2011-2012 season, Lara will be the Assistant Coach of the Grant MacEwan Women's hockey team competing in the ACAC. Previously, Lara was head coach of the EGHA Bantam AAA Lightening competing in the newly formed Alberta Major Bantam League during the 2009-2010 season. As well, she was Assistant Coach for Team Alberta which competed in the U18 Nationals in November, 2009. Previously, Lara coached the Sherwood Park Fury Midget AAA hockey team in the Alberta Major Midget League for the past 3 years. She also has various experience including Team Edmonton Head Coach at the Alberta Winter games in 2006 (silver medalists) and 2008; coaching female summer Midget AAA hockey from 2003-2008 and teaching numerous hockey schools and power skating since the age of 16. Career Goals:

Lara wishes to continue her passion of teaching and coaching through The Hockey Program and continue the growth and awareness of the female program at Donnan/Vimy to foster the development of young female hockey players. Lara also aspires to coaching Team Alberta in the Canada Winter Games and eventually head-coaching University/ College hockey.
