Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are already in our seventh week of classes and heading into Fall Break next week! Team Denmark has been progressing nicely over the first quarter of our school year. Most importantly, it seems as though everybody in the group, including instructors and teachers, are having a great deal of fun working together and getting to know each other!

The goal of our first quarter was to emphasize effort into all of our activities. Team Denmark students have been working exceptionally hard and have embraced the idea that that the more you put into an activity, the more they will get out of it! We have been working on basic skills on the ice such as passing, shooting and handling the puck. After the break we will continue to work on individual skills and will be moving into Purposeful Movement, emphasizing passing into open ice and supporting the puck. We recently had our first Power Skating session with Vanessa Hettinger and she was extremely impressed with how well the students listened and paid attention to detail in their skating. Well done! We have also been continuing to stress punctuality to our students when it comes to getting on the ice and have achieved our goal of having everybody dressed and ready to go by 12:45pm! Please keep encouraging your child to practice tying his or her skates to help all of us get onto the ice sooner!

Thus far, our off-ice activities have involved the overall conditioning of our athletes. We recently completed the Turkey Trot where students ran a 2km race through the Mill Creek Ravine. Congratulations to Zach Dartnell, Trevor Sullivan and Koletrane Wilson;l they will get to take home a turkey for Thanksgiving compliments of THP for finish in the top 3! We have recently wrapped up our football unit in Physical Education, and will be heading into the fitness center after the break where students will have a chance to use some equipment and start getting on the skating treadmill! We will also be heading to Vimy Ridge later in the fall for some wall climbing.
On behalf of myself and Lara Ruppell and The Hockey Program staff, we wish you and your family a very relaxing, well-deserved break.

Thank you,
Dan Auchenberg
