Blazers' Parents,

I hope that you enjoyed your SPRING BREAK. As I am writing this message prior to Spring Break, I am hoping that when we do return to school in April, we have no more snow.

What a busy year to date…tryouts, league play, tournaments, Minor Hockey Week, playoffs and more tournaments. All the while we have tried to maintain a schedule that allowed for skill development and plan for the peaks and valleys encountered in the busy minor hockey schedule. As such, last year we incorporated the 1st annual Donnan Spring Hockey League. We mix the grades 5 + 6 to form 3 teams. Each team is coached by a teacher and we put together a round robin regular season. The games will be 5 vs. 5, and run for an hour. Each team will get a practice with their coach during the season, at this practice we will have the grade 4's joining the team that is practicing to allow for some leadership and mentorship opportunities.

The goaltenders will rotate thru the games allowing each team and each goaltender to see a variety of challenges. The ice at Donnan Arena is removed during spring break, so we will be bussing the students to alternative ice rinks and bussing them back to the school for pick up by their parents. We plan to make this a very fun and enjoyable experience for the student athletes, which they will view as a relaxed game atmosphere. The learning opportunities are to develop teamwork, and game situational play. The DSHL will keep statistics and even have a “trading deadline” . We will be attempting to keep you updated as to the leagues news via The Hockey Program twitter feed, which can be found HERE.

In May & June we will start training for the annual THP Triathlon. We also are seeking participants, prize donors, sponsors and volunteers for our 1st annual AAD golf tournament, scheduled for May 28th at The Ranch Golf & Country Country Club.
